Rutgers’ Board of Governors and Board of Trustees have endorsed a framework for development that would significantly enhance the university’s historic College Avenue Campus.

This project, which would enable Rutgers to meet the high demand for academic classroom space and student housing on the university’s most historic campus, is an innovative public-private partnership involving close collaboration with New Brunswick Development Corporation (Devco) and the City of New Brunswick.

The project will also allow Rutgers to establish an Honors College that can play a vital role in the state's and university's efforts to keep the best and brightest students in New Jersey.

Goals for the College Avenue Campus

1.  Unify the campus, which has been bifurcated by the New Brunswick Theological Seminary for over 150 years, to create a cohesive and appealing learning environment.

2.  Establish a residence hall for Honors College students from throughout the New Brunswick Campus with its own programming space to help attract and retain the state’s most talented students.

3.  Provide much-needed lecture halls and classrooms configured with high-tech support for 21st-century uses.

4.  Increase educational synergies and efficiencies by housing several School of Arts and Sciences departments in one modern building.

5.  Provide apartment-style living for more Rutgers students along with expanded plazas and green spaces.
